Sustainable Agriculture

Agriculture plays a key role in the Pacific Food Systems. Challenges confronting Pacific agriculture production systems include fragile island ecosystems, vulnerability to climate change and natural disasters, unsustainable agriculture practices leading to poor soil health, increasing incidences of pests and diseases in crops and livestock, declining livestock production and productivity and limited capacity of farming communities.

The Sustainable Agriculture theme develops and promotes integrated solutions to counter the challenges to sustainable agriculture production systems by building robust information systems, effective partnerships and policy advocacy. Technical support services are targeted to research and development in various agriculture disciplines including animal health and production services, integrated plant health systems, seed systems, farming systems, and capacity building on climate resilient agriculture practices.
