Value Chains

To help support households at the farm and community level, the Market for Livelihoods work theme focuses on how to strengthen agricultural production through the utilization of value chains.  Adding value to agricultural commodities can occur by processing them into other products such as flour, oil, beverages, chips, etc.., as well as compliance to international food safety standards such as the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point, or organic agriculture certification.

This theme looks at different agricultural commodities produced commercially in the region, such as coconuts, kava, cocoa, coffee and others, and conducts value chain analyses on them to identify gaps and how they can be addressed in a way that will strengthen the value chains.  The approach aims to ensure value chains are sustainable and will benefit all stakeholders, with particular focus on households at the farmer and community level.
