Agriculture and Forestry Management

Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs) have fragile ecosystems and there is an urgent need to ensure that agricultural and forestry resources are managed and developed in a sustainable way to protect the resource base for the future. Climate change adds an additional dimension to the already difficult problems facing PICTs. LRD has a role to play in promoting sustainable resource management and ensuring that resource owners are aware of the costs associated with unsustainable resource use, including reduced yields from loss of soil fertility, mitigating the impacts of agriculture and forestry pests, diseases and other invasive species and damage to freshwater and marine resources through erosion and run-off.
