PROJECT: Climate-smart landscapes for promoting sustainability of Pacific Island agricultural systems

This project develops a collaborative geospatial platform that will facilitate the identification of climate-smart landscape adaptation responses. SPC LRD is working collaboration with the University of Western Australia, University of Sydney, University of the South Pacific, University of Auckland, Ministry of agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Forestry (Tonga, Fiji) and local Ba Communities (Fiji) to focus on project research and training.

The project has six main objectives.

  1. Critically review and evaluate existing collaborative geospatial tools, platforms and methodologies.
  2. Develop a collaborative geospatial platform with an interface that is accessible and appropriate for a range of landscape stakeholders.
  3. Identify community level landscape-livelihood-climate stressor interactions.
  4. Identify capacity for multi-stakeholder knowledge sharing into the collaborative geospatial platform.
  5. Evaluate the effectiveness of the collaborative geospatial platform for promoting community and multi-stakeholder exchange and engagement with landscape knowledge.
  6. Identify co-adaptation pathways for communities within the landscape to build climate resilience and enhance environmental livelihood security (ELS).
