Name:Vegetable production, postharvest handling and marketing in Fiji
Description:The development of high-value crops for domestic consumption and export is seen as a priority for economic development and improved livelihoods in many Pacific island countries. The Fiji Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) identified fruits and vegetables as among the six “priority concerns” for export promotion and import substitution. The government has identified cabbages, lettuce, tomatoes, capsicums, carrots, onions, potatoes, and peas as target crops for greater production. Hotels, supermarkets and restaurants are seen as key domestic markets.
