10th Regional Meeting of Pacific Heads of Agriculture and Forestry Services (PHOAFS) & 4th Pacific Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry Meeting (PMAF)
Dates: 26-30 May 2025
Venue: Nuku'alofa, Kingdom of Tonga
The Pacific Heads of Agriculture and Forestry Services (PHOAFS) held their 10th regional meeting in Nuku’alofa, Tonga, from May 26 to 30, 2025, as part of the Pacific Week of Agriculture and Forestry (PWAF). This biannual event brought together leaders, experts, and senior officials from across the Pacific to address pressing agricultural and forestry challenges under the theme "Transform Agriculture & Forestry: More Regeneration, More Productivity, More Resilience." The meeting fostered collaboration and knowledge-sharing on topics such as climate-smart practices, biosecurity, food security, and sustainable livelihoods, aiming to advance the transformation and resilience of Pacific agriculture and forestry sectors.
Alongside the PHOAFS meeting, Tonga also hosted the 4th Pacific Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry Meeting during PWAF 2025. Ministers endorsed the "Growing the Pacific 2050 Strategy for Agriculture and Forestry," a comprehensive regional roadmap built on five strategic pathways—healthy, regenerative, secure, integrated, and enabled. The ministers’ meeting marked a significant milestone in aligning Pacific nations to collectively address issues including climate change, ageing farmer populations, out-migration, and the need for sustainably developed, resilient agrifood systems. The event highlighted the Pacific’s commitment to collaborative action and the integration of traditional knowledge with innovation to ensure a vibrant and sustainable future for the region’s food and forestry systems. The meeting welcomed the offer from Solomon Islands to host the next meeting in 2027
