In partnership with Pacific Trade Invest (PTI), CIDP supported four coconut-based businesses to display their projects at this year’s Fine Foods Australia Exhibition held in Sydney on 9–12 September.

Fine Food Australia is the leading trade exhibition for the food industry in Australia and features over 1000 exhibiting brands, showcasing: general and specialty food; catering equipment; hospitality equipment; bakery, drinks, coffee, tea, dairy, meat and seafood products; retail and technology; fit-out and design; packaging; natural, organic and free-from products; and on-premise liquor.  More than 26,000 visitors attend Fine Food Australia each year,

The four businesses that CIDP supported this year were: Niugini Organics from Papua new Guinea; Coconut Love, who source their virgin coconut oil (VCO) from the coconut cluster in Samoa; Tanna Farms with their VCO from Tanna Island; and Niue Vanilla with its VCO infused with vanilla.

As well as the trade show, the Fine Foods Australia Exhibition is also a networking event, with opportunities to learn from food industry leaders and successful operators about practical solutions to common food business issues, including staffing, profitability and operating efficiencies. Participants were also able to gain insight into the top trends affecting Australia’s food industry to help ensure that their businesses are in step with changing consumer demands.

All the companies attending the exhibition made several contacts and will be following up with them over the coming weeks. They all found the show very educational and realised that there are a lot of competitors in the coconut sector, not just from the Pacific Islands but also from Sri Lanka, the Philippines and other countries. As a result of this realisation and the Fine Foods experience, some of these businesses will relook at their packaging, with the aim of improving their label designs to make them more attractive to consumers, help them stand out from the crowd and enhance their competitiveness.
