![]() The course orientation programme will immediately follow the launch of a 16-week distance learning paravet training module developed by the Pacific Community (SPC), for the 23 trainees. In addition to the launch and orientation programme, 30 participants including the new paravet trainees and senior staff from Biosecurity Vanuatu, Department of Livestock and representatives from the Vanuatu National Disaster Management Office, will undergo training in animal disease emergency response by way of a simulation exercise which will be conducted over a three days from 27 – 29 April. The aim of the training is to update the existing Vanuatu Laefstok Disease Emergency Response Plan and familiarise the participants with the operational aspects of the plan. It is important that Vanuatu has trained animal health and biosecurity people on the ground in order to prevent the entry and spread of serious animal diseases which in turn also benefits the livestock industry, including the country’s beef export trade. The para-veterinary and animal disease emergency response (ERP) trainings are being implemented by SPC in collaboration with the Vanuatu Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, Fisheries and Biosecurity (MALFFB) and Vanuatu Agriculture College.
