The PPPO council meets every three years but the PPPO Executive committee comprising of representatives from the three different geographical subregions; Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia plus Australia and New Zealand meet annually. Guam is the current chair of PPPO with vice chairs, New Zealand and Australia. The PPPO executive committee members are Cook Islands, Tonga, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and Nauru.
The Secretariat of the Pacific Community hosts the PPPO Secretariat as it is the regional organisation that hosts all member countries and is involved in providing assistance in plant protection and quarantine to member countries since it’s inception in 1947. Non IPPC contracting parties in the region such as the French, US and New Zealand Territories are also invited to participate in PPPO meetings for their information and to implement standards.
In the standard setting process such as the draft ISPM workshops member countries meet to discuss and endorse standards and discuss ways to implement the standards. The PPPO secretariat also facilitates information exchange amongst its member countries.
